Hello. Welcome to another sketch installment at Try Stamping On Tuesday. I had a bit of a hard time deciding what I wanted to do with sketch. Sometimes the mojo just takes a bit of a break. Then I was watching a video from Fun Stamper's Journey and the inspiration hit (actually two videos).
I decided to take my project from a card to a notebook. I love the idea of a gratitude journal and have wanted to start one for quite some time. So my project will have a tutorial with it as well for you.
Here is the sketch
I found an old notebook that my kids didn't use for school and it's perfect for this sketch.
Step 1: Start with any size or shape notebook you want. Make sure to remove any labels that may be on it (as I did here)
Step 2: Cut two pieces of cardstock to fit the cover (mine was 9 3/4x 7 1/2 inches). I also cut two pieces for the inside covers as well.
Step 3: Attach the pieces you cut to the cover of your notebook
Step 4: Open the cover and cut off any excess paper. Mine had just a bit and rounded corners to remove.
Step 5: Choose a washi tape or ribbon (can also use cardstock, although it may be harder to attach) and run it over the edge of your notebook. Make sure it's wide enough to go around the binding. Trim edges after you've wrapped it around the binding.
Step 6: Add another layer of ribbon, cardstock or washi tape to give it a more cohesive look (as you'll see in the finished project I had to change to a different color for this as the black wouldn't stick)
Step 7: Start decorating your notebook as you'd like. I love the oval with embossing. I used a dauber to add some color to the raised embossing to bring it out a bit more. I then punched out the flowers and rolled the petals with my bone folder and layered them.
Here is a close up of the flowers. You can also see how I colored the embossing as well.
